I'd like to chime in and say it's giving more value than the price... and that's only if you want repeat customers. The quality is only relevant to the price. As long as people feel like they're getting a good deal, they'll come back and buy from you again.

Then it depends on your market and your list. If your customers are used to buying $7 reports from you, they may or may not jump on an offer for a $1997 product no matter how much effort you put into it. But if you have a list of folks who routinely spend $5K on seminars, $1K might be a bargain if you deliver enough value.

So it depends. I like to think of NLP as the decorations on a cake. If you don't have a good cake, no amount of decoration is going to change that. Alternately if you have two good cakes, great decorations can make one stand head and shoulders above the other.

"the best way to market your wares is to make them as high quality as you can"

With respect, I have to disagree. Marketing is separate from the quality of the product. Reputation plays a part - sure - but you can only have a reputation once you already have customers or leads.

In fact, I'm developing a product right now, and my friend - who makes substantially more money than I do in doing marketing - is suggesting that I don't put so much work into it because it'll sell either way.

I've seen way too many people sell out of crappy products, and way too many "quality" products not sell. It's not value but PERCEIVED value that tends to sell - and yeah reputation might help with that, but so does a good sales letter :)

There are some good techniques on display here, but I would like to add that the best way to market your wares is to make them as high quality as you can. Go that extra mile when producing them. Then you build up a reputation for quality, which is good for your long term strategy.

Also when you come to talk about and market them, your extra confidence in them will naturally flow from you. It will be far easy for you to talk positively about a product you have given your all to.
