Hi everyone,

To get some discussion going, I thought we would talk about how to handle a particular client issue using Regression concepts.

The following is an excerpt from our DVD Training Program "Advanced Regression Concepts and techniques."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Feelings, if not allowed to flow, will accumulate. The more they accumulate, the more difficult it is to use willpower, logic and rationalization (characteristics of the conscious mind), to move through and change the paradigm your clients wish to shift.

Many times clients have come to us and said “I don’t get it; when I was younger I use to be able to bulldoze my way through this particular feeling or situation, but now I just can’t.”

Our answer goes, “Well, when you were younger there was not as much ‘evidence’ accumulated in the subconscious mind to battle against your conscious willpower mind, thus you were able to will power your way through these situations and feelings. However, as the days, weeks, months and years went by the unresolved, un-cleared events and feelings were being deposited into your subconscious mind (physical body) to the point where they had more than enough “evidence” to become bigger than the willpower part of you, leaving your conscious mind helpless to the (accumulated) power of the perceptions and feelings stored in the subconscious.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because of the accumulation of the negative experiences,
the subconscious (feeling) mind eventually gangs up on
and out numbers the willpower part of the mind.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And because the critical faculty has the function of protecting personal definitions, habits become locked in and hard to change.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The subconscious is not lazy;
it is highly protective of our individuality.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thus, when we have an accumulation of experiences that make us react negatively, our conscious willpower is outnumbered and overpowered.

The accumulation model is interesting - like there's rocks and sediment flowing through a stream, and as long as there's not much in the way, the stream can flow freely, but when too much accumulates in one spot, you get a blockage and all the water starts to spill out over the stream, no longer as directed and controlled as it could be before.

Very nice breakdown Taylor!

It's all about flow, isn't it? ... and for me, the more natural flow we have moving through us, the more connected we are to our inner resources for attracting and realizing the "openings" that surround us ALL the time - for what we want to manifest or to access the natural health we are already born with. But many times we miss these oppurtunities, becasuse of the "debris" we've accumulated that blocks us from seeing the "beautiful garden" just to the left or right of us (and sometimes right in front of us.)

Yeah, Matt, I agree wholeheartedly with you. People already have all the resources they need in order to solve all of their problems. The solutions are already within them - and our job as hypnotists and coaches is to enable that stream of ideas to start flowing again, so they can see those openings, and so the beautiful garden that you talk about is visible to them once again.

I forget the study, but Gene Landrum talks about how they test 4-year-olds for their creative potential and find they are amazingly creative, and then they do that same test 3 or 4 years later, and that creativity has been all but drained out of them.

This is why regression work can be so powerful and so dramatic - when you release whatever is stopping up the stream, people can become truly brilliant and allow their natural creativity to come out to solve even the most significant challenges in their lives.

Taylor,

Fascinating study and falls right in line with Stephen Parkhill's idea about 0-5 years of age being the base of all our perceptions and anything after that will be a result of 0-5.

Also, psychology studies have told us that from 0-5 (some say 0-12) we learn more in that time frame then the rest of our lives put together. So it seems, after the age of 5, we start to move away from the vast resources of our SM, and move more into our analytical portions of our mind - which can be good and bad. But that's another topic for another time.

Oh, I just wanted to say as I may not have made it completely clear... But I'd love to hear what you all might say when a client comes in with the scenario mentioned above (and repeated below).

"Many times clients have come to us and said “I don’t get it; when I was younger I use to be able to bulldoze my way through this particular feeling or situation, but now I just can’t.”"

I worked with a woman today who said, "Life seemed to be easier for me to handle when i was younger." and this relates a lot to what you discussed here. Now, my answer was something close to yours...I said something more like how the subconscious was more willing then to work through these things...but your explaination is much better...Thanks for that! See, I've learned something already!

Hey Rich,

I think your explanation could work very well. As I see it, from that angle, I would have probably said something like:

"Deep inside the SM before any negative thoughts or perceptions entered was your truth, your truest inspiration... and that truth or inspiration is wanting to come out all the time. When it feels like you are moving away from it, it will send a signal to the body or emotional or mental state signaling to you somehow that you that you are out of alignment. Thus, that is why you are in my office today, to get back into alignment - to align both your consicous and subconscious mind so you can pull from all our resources and come back to balance and clarity. To move through all the "Stuff" (that's a clinical term :-p - I just can't think of a better word right now) that got dumped on top of your truth. This is why we do regression work, to clear out all that stuff so you can remember who you are."

Both of my cents worth :)

Feelings cannot be controlled by the conscious mind. They are the result of, and a reaction to, input received. The conscious mind can sequester the visibility of the feelings, from others, but it cannot control how we feel. (any irrational fear shows you that)

The decisive mind (superconscious) is the guardian of our individuality and defines who we are as people. The reactive mind (subconscious) could care less. It is not aware it is an individual, it is too busy reacting.

The last statement makes no sense unless you are talking about the failure to hide our reaction from others.

The concept of storing unexperienced feelings I think is sound, because like stress, they remain when you don't know what to do with them.

I have a technique I call a "core dump" that I use to help people rid themselves of the backup.

John,

Thank you for your reply.

I think we are saying the exact same thing and you just corroborated what was said about the subconscious feeling mind over-ruling the conscious mind and everything else mentioned from the post.

But allow me to expand so we both can gain clarity about each others thoughts.

I see what your saying about the superconscious ruling our indivdiuality but it works in direct connection with our subconscious mind in conjunction with our physical, mental and emotional state.

Thus, we can become out of balance to our superconscious "decisions" because the conscious mind chooses (Free will) not to allow that superconsciousness to flow within our human selves, causing an imbalance. The superconscious will then signal to us we are out of alignment through our subconscious feeling mind, which has created a sense of individuality from the feelings and perceptions we grew up with. Feelings and perceptions that have become familiar to the subconscious mind... and what becomes familiar to the subconscious, whether good or bad, becomes our sense of "security." even if it's bad for us. This is where the sense of protection of "individuality" comes in.

But remember in a nutshell, our human consciousness (free will) can repress what you call the "decisive" mind and take us away from the wishes of the superconscious. The battle then gets taken out in our subconscious which can cause mental, emotional and physical dis-ease.

Thus the need for hypnosis and deeper issues, regression hypnosis.

Ever work with a cancer client? Particularly one that wants to stay alive consciously, and probably "superconsciously," but the repressed emotions and the perceptions born from those emotions (which were created from the unwillingness of the conscious mind (free will) to let them come up to surface) are over ruling her wishes due to subconscious suggestions of self destruction that's been reinforced over and over and over again in the subconscious mind?

Well, in these situations it becomes clear that the subconscious is protecting the familiarity - accumulated out of alignment repressed feelings - that have birthed accumulated negative perceptions of "Wanting to die" through her life and no matter what she thinks consciously about living, she eventually fails.

In this situation, without release of the old feelings and the perceptions tied to it, it's a very hard battle for her to win just by thinking about health consciously. Basically, the feeling mind and its accumulation of the negative feelings and perceptions now automatically over-rules her thinking mind

So with that being said, I hope I have explained in further detail why the last sentence does make sense.

But let me mention real quickly that I do have one beef with most hypnotists. Their misperception that the conscious mind is weak over the subconscious. As I mentioned above, I hope I have explained to a minimal degree the importance of the conscious mind. But another topic for another time. :)

My best,
Matt

I also see this issue when working with people who have been through a trauma; a single incident that impacts them in such a way they begin experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms - they report it doesn't matter how logical or rational they are, and what they say to themselves, their emotions are overpowering.
